Historical trains on the cog railway

Climb aboard and experience adventure on the steepest railway in the Czech Republic
while enjoying the mountain landscape from the window of a historic train.
This year, we are excited to introduce steam trains on the Kořenov – Harrachov line, with
selected trips extending all the way to Szklarska Poręba in Poland.

Enjoy traditional events such as the Model Weekend, Blueberry Saturday, or Mulled Wine
at the Heating Plant. Don’t miss other themed trips featuring the historic M 152.0 (810)
"Orchestrion" railcars, offering a unique way to experience the Zubačka railway.
In the autumn, the T 426.0 "Rakušanka"; diesel cog locomotives will make a much-
anticipated return to the Tanvald–Kořenov–Harrachov line.

At Kořenov station, you can visit the Cog Railway Museum to learn about the rich and
often dramatic history of the Zubačka. Guided tours are also available at the unique stone
heating plant, which houses our historic vehicles, including the Rowanzug Swiss cog train
with its locomotive from 1904. Some vehicles are even open for you to explore inside.

While at Kořenov station, take a ride on the mine railway or enjoy refreshments to
complete your visit.

From 15 th April 2025 to 30 th October 2025, a closure will be in effect on the Tanvald –
Kořenov section due to track repairs. Regular passenger train services will be replaced by
buses. During the track closure, historic bus rides will be introduced on selected dates, connecting
Tanvald, Kořenov, and Jizerka.

HISTORIC RAILCARS
A ride on a historic railcar connects all our attractions, which you can experience in the
company of our railcar conductor. In Kořenov, the conductor will guide you through the
individual exhibits. During the ride, you can observe the driver at work and learn interesting
facts about the Tanvald – Kořenov – Harrachov railway. You can then deepen your
knowledge at the Cog Railway Museum in Kořenov which you can explore on your own.
The museum is complemented by the Heating Plant exhibition showcasing our entire
collection of railway equipment, through which the railcar conductor will guide you with
commentary.
Before heading back to the railcar, don’t miss our mine railway, which is fun for both
children and adults. It will complete your visit to Kořenov and will leave you with a smile on
your face!

HISTORIC RIDES ON A COG LOCOMOTIVE ENGINE
This year, after track repairs, our unique diesel cog locomotive engines will once again
haul trains on the Zubačka railway. Train rides with these engines are scheduled for
November 1 st and December 27 th . Experience the unique features of the Tanvald –
Kořenov – Harrachov line as we climb the steepest track in the Czech Republic with our T
426.0 cog locomotive, known as “Rakušanka”, conquering the steepest sections with the
help of its cog system.

HISTORIC STEAM TRAIN RIDES: KOŘENOV – HARRACHOV
A major highlight of this season is the introduction of steam trains on the Kořenov –
Harrachov line. Choose one of the 23 scheduled dates, hop aboard a historic train, and
experience what it was like when steam ruled the railways. Along the way, you’ll enjoy
stunning views of the Krkonoše mountains, a ride over the 25 metre high bridge spanning
the Jizera River, and through the 280 metre long Harrachov tunnel. The trains will be
accompanied by conductors in historical uniforms. Leading the trains will be steam
locomotive 312.3629, one of the last steam locomotives manufactured by ČKD Prague.
